Family, friends and fans bid final adieu to veteran actor Rajesh Khanna who died on Wednesday morning after a prolong illness. Hundreds of admirers turned up on the streets to catch the last glimpse of India’s first superstar.
The 69-year-old Bollywood star was laid to rest at the Pawan Hans crematorium. Earlier, the funeral procession of Rajesh Khanna began from his bungalow, ‘Aashirwad’ on Carter Road at around 10 AM. The body was placed in a glass casket and was taken to the crematorium in Juhu in an open truck, bedecked with white flowers.
The body of Rajesh Khanna, was accompanied by son-in-law and actor Akshay Kumar, estranged wife Dimple Kapadia and his younger daughter Rinkie Khanna. The last rites were performed by Khanna’s grandson Aarav, with father Akshay.
Many Bollywood personalities including Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek, Manoj Kumar, Rani Mukherjee and Karan Johar turned up at the crematorium to pay their last respects.
Rajesh started his career with the 1966 film “Akhari Khat” and went on to give hit films like Aradhana, Kati Patang, Anand and Amar prem that propelled him to dazzling fame.
His last words before his demise, according to megastar Amitabh Bachchan, were “Time to pack up” in true Bollywood-style. We pay our heart felt condolences to the khanna family.. May his soul rest in peace.
