kareena kapoor, saif ali khanDirected by Sriram Raghavan, Agent Vinod is a spy thriller starring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Prem Chopra, Ram Kapoor and Ravi Kishan.

Made over a budget of astonishing 60 crore, Agent Vinod revives the genre of spy films that went on to become huge hit in the early 70’s.

Agent Vinod begins with a series of seemingly unconnected events. A nuclear suitcase bomb is the main object of desire for Indian mafia and how the bomb gets a safe passage to India forms the crux of the story. A series of twists and turns take agent Vinod, a RAW (RESEARCH & ANALYIS WING) agent across the globe from Marrakesh to Riga, Moscow to Karachi where he finally discovers the ultimate conspiracy behind the whole terrorism plot.

During his journey, he meets the beautiful but mysterious Ruby (Kareena Kapoor ) who happens to be an ISI Pakistani agent.. The film then revolves around how Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor track and hunt down the goons, diffuse a bomb and save billions lives.

Agent Vinod is the stylish remake of the 1977 action film of the same name, which itself was a desi version of  Sean Connery’s James Bond Movie “From Russia with Love”.

Talking about direction, director Sriram Raghavan has presented quite a polished product in the form of Agent Vinod. The movie which was under production for almost two years has got a look of an international spy thriller, all thanks to the cinematographer C.K.Muraleedaran. However, the most important of all, the story of the film isn’t enthralling.

Agent Vinod story isn’t connected and has loopholes. With almost 3 hours, the film does not keep you engaged and fails to build up curiosity. Stylized editing, supersonic paced screenplay, umpteen twists does not make a great film.

Both Kareena and Saif try to infuse as much energy into their rather complex characters as the script requires. Individually Saif Ali Khan tries to imitate Daniel Craig, and the movie of course follows the pattern of a James Bond movie, and he succeeds to impress the audience to a certain extend whereas Kareena looks gorgeous as usual.

Music of the film by pritam is good. Songs like ‘I’ll Do The Talking Tonight’, ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ and ‘Pungi’, though not extraordinary, keep up the pace while the theme track is an absolute killer.

Prem Chopra returns back in his villainous avatar and must say impresses with his acting prowess. Overall Agent Vinod is a onetime watch for all those people who love to see bollywood thrillers. For people who like Hollywood, Agent vinod might appear to be a less impressive eone.. Watch the movie at your own risk.

We at Bollywoodbackstage give agent vinod 2.5 stars on 5.
