An out an out rom com ‘EK Main Aur Ekk Tu’ is directed by Shakun Batra and is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, and Ronie Screwala.
The film stars Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan in lead roles.
The film is the story of how the two lead characters meet and how a chain of events lands them into an awkward situation and they end up marrying each other.
Rahul Kapoor (Imran Khan), 26, is on his way to become a carbon copy of his parents when he suddenly loses his job as an architect in Vegas. Afraid that he has let his parents down, Rahul decides to hide the truth and find another job. When by a twist of fate, he meets Riana Braganza (Kareena Kapoor), a quick-witted hairstylist, who is everything he isn’t.
A series of events lead them to meet on Christmas Eve over a few drinks. Following this night, they wake up to discover that they’ve got married.
Ek Main Aur EKK Tu then unfolds into how Rahul and Riana have their share of arguments, moments and laughs that results in an unlikely friendship before they finally get the marriage annulled.
Unlike the traditional bollywood love stories director Shakun Batra has tried to make a love story with a different treatment this time. Generally, a typical bollywood love story follows fixed sequence of meeting of boy and girl, becoming friends, falling in love and then getting married beating all odds with a happy ending. But this time Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu has come up with a different sequence where the boy and girl meet, marry and then become friends.
However the most disappointing aspect of the film is that the characters are weakly written. Loosely based on the film ‘one night in vegas’, EKMET gets boring in the first half itself.. There is nothing that keeps you glued to the narrative.
Kareena Kapoor is surprisingly good and is not overdoing her peppy act. However, she does not offer anything new to the character because it reminds you of her character geet from jab we met.. In fact at times the film looks like a jab we met part 2 set in an urban surrounding..
Imran Khan is decent. His acting makes you like him…His overtly different expressions when his ex-flame Soniya Mehra tries to get intimate with him in a bathroom are the funniest of all.
Kareena kapoor and Imran Khan share a fantastic chemistry with each other. The pairing will generate more interest if they team up again for a better movie.. Interestingly, Imran Khan is younger to Kareena and has a huge edge over actor friend Ranbir Kapoor, since she cannot be romantically paired opposite him
Cinematography and music of the film is very good. Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah’s performance as the sophisticated elite socialite parents of Imran is good.. Soniya Mehra in her cameo role gives a decent performance.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner,
Karan Johar produced and Shakun Batra directed Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu starring the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor and the boy-next-door Imran Khan might just be a film for you to take your guy or gal to the theatre for this weekend. However, it does not guarantee you praises..
Overall EK Main Aur Ekk Tu is a good rom com with a different twist but not the one which will be liked by all.. We at Bollywoodbackstage give EMAET 2.5 stars on 5.
